Marhaban wa Ahlan wa sahlan مرحباً و أهلاً و سهلاً
Welcome our wonderful parents and students to our Arabic formal page. Our aim as a department at JPS is to implement creative approaches of teaching and learning Arabic, both to native speakers and to pupils studying it as a foreign language. The courses are designed to make studying the language interesting, relevant, and stimulating to students of all age groups and levels.
Arabic study at JPS is compulsory from year 1. The courses are divided into Arabic ‘A’ (for native speakers) and Arabic ‘B’ (for non-native speakers).
Arabic A
Our aim that students maintain their Arab identity and master the Arabic language. We teach the Ministry curriculum in addition to an enriched curriculum to meet the different educational needs at all stages in listening, speaking, conversation, reading and writing.
In Year 1 to Year 3, on a weekly basis, the students are having six lessons of 40 minutes each. Then in Year 4 to Year 6, the students will have five lessons of 40 minutes each.
Arabic B
Arabic B is taught according to level and students are placed in teaching groups based on their ability, ranging from complete beginners through to more advanced non-native groups.
Lessons are interactive and planned to make learning enjoyable and engaging to develop the four language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Assessment is done informally throughout lessons. Provision is made for students enrolling in JPS who have never studied Arabic to enable them to progress at an appropriate level and pace.
Starting from Year 3 classes are split into two groups based on ability, it’s important to note that there isn’t a sense of being left behind. Such streaming gives the children a chance to explore their own ability and learn by being true to themselves.
Arabic flipped learning
Arabic Flip learning is a tool designed for Arabic B students in all year groups to expose them to their new learning in advance where the class time can be used efficiently to apply new knowledge. It also enhances students’ learning and helps individual students to take their next development plan. Arabic Flip learning will also give the opportunity for parents to learn Arabic with their children!
